What is the site Earth Promise about?
Earth Promise is an online community where environmentally conscious people use the site as a platform to document changes in their everyday lives, whether large or small, that will improve the earth's condition caused by global warming and related issues. These changes, or Earth Promises, can have a tremendous effect when grouped together. To learn more, check out our About Us page.

Become a Member/Account Information

Is it free to become a member of Earth Promise?
Earth Promise is a free site. All the features and benefits are available to all members.

What information do I need to provide to sign up to become a member?
To sign up, the only information you need to provide is your first name (last name is not required), your email address, and then where you are from, specifically, country, state (if US resident) and postal code.

I forgot my password. What should I do?
On the log in page (http://www.earthpromise.com/login.cgi), there is a link to click if you forgot your username and/or password. Simply provide the email address associated with your Earth Promise membership, and the information will be sent to that address.

How do I change my password, personal information, email address, or preferences?
By going to the Edit My Profile page, you are able to change all information regarding your Earth Promise membership including your password, picture, email, personal information, and preferences. For your security, you will need to enter your password on the page, even if you are logged in.

What is the "Remember Me" option on the login page?
By selecting the "Remember Me" box when you log in, Earth Promise will remember your username so it does not have to be entered each time you return to the site, even if you log out. This applies only to the computer you used to select the "Remember Me" box. For your security, when you have to log back in, you will need to provide your password.

How do I upload or change my profile picture?
You can upload or change your profile picture on the Edit My Profile page. This page is where you would change all your personal settings. In the Member Information section, there is a box for uploading photo. Any photo being uploaded must be 1.5 MB or less.

Earth Promises

Can I make my own Earth Promise?
Sure. In addition to making Earth Promises that other members made or one's in our database, you can write your own. Simply go to the Create a New Earth Promise page, enter in the promise, a more detailed description (not required), the categories that apply and if you would like a reminder about it. Once you submit them, they will appear on your Profile Page and in your Dashboard.

Can I edit an existing Earth Promise?
Yes. After clicking on the Make this Earth Promise link for a specific promise, under the Earth Promise is a link to edit the text. This will allow you to craft the promise to apply directly to you.

I am not sure what to promise. How can I learn about potential Earth Promises I can make? If you are not sure what to promise, we have a number of features that will help you develop a set of Earth Promises that apply directly to you. All can be viewed on the Make an Earth Promise page. These include the following options:

• Earth Promise's Starter Plan - Easy ways to get started making and keeping Earth Promises in various categories
• Earth Promise Wizard - A few questions to find an Earth Promise that is right for you
• Earth Promises Already Made - A database of promises made by our community members

Is there a place that has all the Earth Promises already made that I can view?
Yes. If you go to the View Earth Promises link along the top header you will be able to view all the promises made to date. You will also be able to view them by category (i.e. home, work, technology, shopping, food, etc.) or by the promise's impact area (i.e. recycling, gas reduction, saving water, etc.).

After making Earth Promises, what happens? Where can I view them?
After you make an Earth Promise, whether your own or one that already exists on the site, this promise will appear in two places – on your Profile Page and on your Dashboard Page. This will allow others to view your promises and also allow you to track them. In addition, if you create a new Earth Promise, it will go into the database and appear on the full list of promises on the site.

What should I do after I accomplished an Earth Promise?
First, congratulate yourself! If you have an Earth Promise that you made that was accomplished, you can move it to the Promises Done section. On your Dashboard Page, click on the promise you want to move. Below the promise, click on "I've Done This". This will automatically move that Earth Promise from the Promises Made to the Promises Done section of your page.

If I see an Earth Promise on the site that I have already accomplished what should I do?
Instead of clicking on the "Make This Earth Promise" link, simply click on the "I've Done This" link and it will automatically go directly into your Promises Done section of your page.

Personal Pages/Network

How do I add a friend?
Each person has a personal profile page. There are a number of ways to get there including simply clicking on their name or photo. At the top of each page there is an "Add to my friends" link. Simply click on this link and that member will be added to your list of connections.

If I add a friend, will I get added to their page?
After you add someone as a friend, a notification will be placed on their dashboard indicating you have added them as a friend and they will have the option to add you as their friend. If they choose to add you as a friend, you will then receive a notification on your dashboard page that you have been added.

How do I invite a friend to join Earth Promise?
The best way of inviting friends to become an Earth Promise member is through the Spread the Word page. By filling out the form which allows for multiple email addresses, you can easily email your friends and family about Earth Promise. In addition, we have included a template for the text of the email you will send which includes general information about Earth Promise and a link to the site. You can edit this text to personalize it or change what you will be sending.

Security

Does Earth Promise distribute my user information?
Earth Promise values your privacy and will never rent or sell your personally identifiable information to third parties for marketing purposes without your consent. Our Privacy Policy describes this in depth.

Do you have a privacy policy?
Yes. Your privacy is extremely important to us. We have a detailed Privacy Policy which you can view. As it states, we will never rent or sell your personally identifiable information to third parties for marketing purposes, we will never share your contact information with another user, without your consent, and any sensitive information that you provide will be secured.
